What is everyone doing for the extended Fourth of July holiday weekend? Arkansas is not lacking in events for the holiday. Here is a look at some of the events happening around town:
Free Day & Fourth of July Family Festival at the Clinton Presidential Center Park: July 3-4 the Presidential Center is celebrating Independence Day. On Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1-5 p.m., admission to the library is free.
Arkansas Queen Cruise: See the fireworks from the river on the Arkansas Queen. It’s July 4th, 501-372-5777.
Pioneer-style 4th of July Celebration: From 2-4 p.m. at the Historic Arkansas Museum. The event has living history performances and a parade, and it’s free. Takes place on the 4th.
Pops on the River: Bring chairs or blankets to Riverfront Park. The gates open at 5:30 p.m. There is music from 6:30 and fireworks start at 9:30 p.m. The Arkansas symphony plays patriotic music to go along with the display. There are also other activities and a marketplace. It is a free event on July 4th.
It’s About How Well You Plan

It’s about how well you plan that makes the most out of your trips! Are you going out of town for the 4th of July? My spontaneity usually gets the best of me and it’s bags packed and off I go for a long weekend.
Since I’m usually waiting until the last minute to go somewhere, it’s best to find some great last minute deals online. Here are some of my favorites:
- Bing.com: Great for checking airfare specials, hotels, cars, cruises and other vacation deals. I especially love the price predictor that lets you know when to purchase fares.
- Craigslist.org: Click on the city you wish to visit and then click on the vacation link. They’ve always got last minute deals on weekend getaways. Who knew to use Craigslist for vacationing?
- VBRO.com: If you’re not a fan of hotels, you can stay at a time-share in most cities using VBRO. VBRO allows you to book a certain number of days or even extend your stay for a month if you so desire. They’ve got great reviews from travelers which really helps with decision power. The nice thing is the ability to contact and rent from owners directly.
Who do you use to plan your getaways? Where will your spontaneity take you?

A River Photo Brings Expression

Do you have artwork in your home? How do you express yourself?
By decorating with our own photographs, we bring forth expression to the world and to others. Not to mention, they make great conversation pieces.
In my apartment, I recently decorated my walls with pictures from some of my recent travels around the world. And it was easy to do.
Many Internet photo developing websites, such as Snapfish, are constantly offering great specials on their services. In many instances, you can earn points. With Snapfish you can even create calendars and photo albums.
After receiving my pictures, I will then purchase some inexpensive, usually around $10, black glossy photo frames that accent my photos quite well, especially up against my white background walls. Target is where I usually go to get the frames.
How do you apply the use of art to your home?

30 Minutes of Swimming the Breast Stroke

So what did yesterday consist of? – which, by the way, was the first day of Summer. Work, of course, followed by a quick dash home and off to the pool for a short 30 to 45 minute swim.
I had a great check-up a few weeks ago, but my physician suggested I try and get a third day of exercise in each week. And I enjoy swimming so why not? At least I will be able to stay cooled while keeping my heart rate up, which in turns burns the necessary calories.
The pool was quiet and I thoroughly enjoyed my time. My routine consisted of the following strokes:
- Butterfly Stroke: This is one of my favorite strokes. You can really get your heart rate up with this one. Just keep your arms moving. But don’t get exhausted – take breaks whenever necessary.
- Sidestroke: This one is really good to build up the strength in your arms. I could really feel the pull of the water.
- Backstroke: Now this one is my absolute favorite. I can hear myself breathe while feeling the sun on my face and I just took the swim at a very comfortable pace.
- Freestyle swimming: This is enjoyable by switching it up between hanging on the side of the pool or pretending to run-in-place.
- Dog Paddle: This stroke gets the heart pumping as well.
Get Swimming with the full list of strokes!
With yesterday’s swim out of the way, I have two more days to go and I’m really looking forward to swimming and staying cool while working out. In the long run, it beats walking in the park while it’s just so hot outside, not to mention all the humidity. What exercise will you choose to stay fit with during the hot months? Don’t forget to stay hydrated by drinking lots of water!

Happy Father’s Day!
“Children learn to smile from their parents.” – Shinichi Suzuki
Shinichi Suzuki (1898-1998) was a Japanese violinist and teacher who introduced millions of children to his “Suzuki Method” – that is he felt children are able to learn things well, in the right environment.
We hope you have a great day!

Affordable Table Flowers For Your Apartment
June 18, 2010 by Adam

I love having flowers in my home, but they are just way too expensive to keep all the time. I sometimes go pick wildflowers from outside, but they are just not the same. I was talking to one of my friends about decorating and she told me that there were several flowers that are easily affordable and great looking.
Some of the flowers that she told me about were:
• Daisies – This is great for the kitchen or dining room table.
• Paperwhites – These smell great and brighten up any room. The best places for this would be beside the bed or on a side table next to the couch.
• Daffodils – The yellow can brighten up any room in your home.
• Hyacinth – Have a great smell and the purple hues set a relaxing, fresh tone for any place.
• Tulips – These are a great way to have your place looking fun in no time. And at some places you can find them as cheap as $1 per stem.
You can find these at any local nursery, Home Depot or Lowes.
What are your favorite flowers to decorate with?
